WILD BOYS

Words by Sami Montague

Who is in the Wildboys crew?

Wildboys crew’s components are: Opium, Zeus40, Rota and Pencil.

When was the Wildboys crew formed and how?

Wildboys crew was born on June 9, 2008, as a result of the dissolution of another crew named TCKM. We felt the need to form our own crew composed of a few very united elements. The name came on a day when we were coming back from a jam by car. We were looking for a good name to represent us, when the stereo in the car played “Wildboys” by Duran Duran. We really like the music from the 80s, specially that song so we thought it was perfect for us.

Where are you based?

Opium and Pencil are based in Torre del Greco, Zeus40 and Rota are based in San Giovanni a Teduccio both close to Naples.

What does the crew stand for and what do you all have in common?

We are working for the affirmation of our own culture around the world. Our purpose is to attain a higher level quality-wise, we want to evolve our work, looking for a really personal and innovative style, but rooted in tradition, one that stresses the importance of the letter. We have in common the same mentality and approach to graffiti and are joined by the same passion and point of view – there is no individualism, everyone works for the crew. For us all, graffiti is not just paint on walls, but a real lifestyle.

What are your aims and goals as a crew?

Our final goal is just to stand out and compete with the best crews in the world, to be able – one day – to live by painting graffiti and of course to become the best crew in graffiti history...[smile]

What is your philosophy of graffiti?

Our philosophy is based on the concept of evolution. Everyday we add something new to our graffiti since we believe we have to seek continuous perfection.
