In recent years Ecuador has been the scene of a great cultural exchange; witnessing the transformation of walls of its cities, in worthy canvasses that would deserve to be in galleries, beautifying the urban landscape with murals that are dedicated to the society, whose objective is to please and touch feelings of citizens who pass through the streets. This feeds back younger generations; giving chance to get new unconventional artists, fact that allows the development of new techniques and raises the artistic level day by day.SOUTH AMERICA 2010 aims to eliminate barriers between partner nations, barriers that have generated debates about techniques, materials and experiences about cities and artist. The event’s desire is to have a cultural exchange about the reality of graffiti in South America. This event will be a great contribution to urban art and worldwide graffiti, eliminating frontiers and expanding culture with the invited countries.Ecuador will be hosting this event, and its capital, Quito, will have the pleasure to be the main point and center of discussion of the universal language called "Graffiti - Street Art".From April 2 to 4, more than 50 artists from: Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Brazil will meet in Quito, to exhibit their artistic abilities and creativity. The hosts and organizers of the event are the members of the Collective Masters of the Funk Crew (MFC) in association with the Northern Zonal Administration of the Metropolitan District of Quito.

INSA Interprets Chris Ofili at Tate Britain

The Tate is gettin' a taste of INSA's racy artistry. As part of the Bring the Noise events at Tate Britain, UK artist INSA was invited to produce a piece of work in response to Chris Ofili’s current retrospective exhibition.
INSA produced two new works: a piece entitled Only God and You Can Judge Me (Jumbo Edition) and a pair of 10” platform high heels made from elephant dung, entitledAnything goes when it comes to (s)hoes….

To produce these insane heels, INSA retraced the footsteps Chris Ofili made over 15 years ago and sourced dung from the same family of elephants that produced the dung used in Chris’s infamous paintings of the nineties. Using similar techniques and materials; beading, resin and painting, INSA pays homage to the style and significance of Ofili’s early work.

As a nod to their shared influences, INSA‘s work is entitledAnything goes when it comes to (s)hoes… a play on a lyric from the classic Big Daddy Kane track Pimpin Ain’t Easy, which is referenced in numerous Chris Ofili paintings.

Nunca x Nike Sportwear "Team Brazil" Pack

As the winningest national football team in history, Brazil has a storied tradition at the World Cup. San Paolo artist Nunca was chosen by Nike Sportswear to help design a pack for the South American footballers.
Like the handful of packs we’ve seen today, a Nike Dunk AC has been designed based on the team colors. Black canvas dresses the uppers, while a white Swoosh matches up with the sole and contrasts the subtle pinstripe separating the sole and upper. Nunca paid homage to the traditional graffiti style of “Pixação” in Brazil with his design work, which appears on all of the clothing items in the pack.

March 6th, 2010 – March 28th, 2010
REVOLUTIONS exposes the history of the graffiti, fashion and cultural revolutions in New York City birthed, nurtured and maintained by The Cool Five otherwise known as TC-5. “New York, during the mid-1980's, was an amazing time for graffiti writers. Trains were crushed, styles were poppin, and TC-5 was one of the main crews at the forefront of the thriving graffiti scene. The crew's roots originate from the early 1970's with The Crazy 5, which was a legendary crew from the Bronx with an impressive roster consisting of BLADE, DEATH, VAMM, TULL 13, CRACHEE, and later AJAX, COMET, SILVER TIPS, and MAZE… After most of the original members of The Crazy 5 had retired, in a somewhat controversial move at the time, COMET granted presidency of TC-5 to a writer from the Bronx named SEEN (or as some called him, Lil' SEEN). SEEN reshaped the crew with some of the freshest writers of his generation such as BEAM, JUICE, DOZE, DOC, LADY PINK, as well as expanding the crew primarily from the Bronx into a true All-City force.” – tcfive.comThe artists in the exhibit are some of the freshest graffiti artists known in the New York Graffiti scene. Together they will illuminate the walls of Crewest Gallery and will present artwork with a cool and creative combination of classic and new school graffiti styles mixed with fine art.Along with this exhibit, will also be a Fashion show on March 20th, 2010 featuring customized clothing by TC-5 taking place during LA Fashion week. The fashion show will feature custom painted denim and tees designed specifically for REVOLUTIONS. “Imagine a Mickey [Mouse] wearing Air Jordans, leaning on a Moët bottle crowned with a dukey rope chain around his neck, dripping in gold and saying your favorite songs hook.” This was the beginning. This is the future. This is classic hip-hop style. Welcome to the world of Shirt King Phade, one-third of the unrivaled founding fathers’ of cartoon and graffiti inspired airbrushed clothing, The Shirt Kings and member of the legendary TC-5 crew of NYC.
The Alphabet Show @ GSB

GSB presents: Eine/UK, Greg Lamarche/US, Huskmitnavn/DK, Jakob Boeskov/DK, Jonas Nobel/SE, Lisa Jonasson/SE, Marten Damgaard/DK , Nug & Pike/SE, Michael Genovese/US.DATE: 26 February – 25 MarsOPENING Friday 26 February 18 - 22Text has always existed as a means to share opinions and externalise existence. In Egypt, 3,500-year-old graffiti survives in which someone expresses his or her opinion of a magnificent pyramid. In the ancient city of Pompeii, messages can still be deciphered such as ”Myrtis, you do great blow jobs” or ”Lucius painted this”. Today, the practices of painting and engraving remain, but now, even the Internet exists as a forum for continually expressing what we do and how we feel. Text has increasingly become instrumental in the processes of constructing identities, of communicating with the outside world, and in the demarcation of territories.Simultaneously, art is an arena where individuals can choose to engage in uncensored modes of expression and progressively, artists are deciding to utilise text in their work. What is the significance of these developments? Can it be said that, even in art, more conscious intentions exist to reach out and communicate with the outside world? Where do these desires come from, to expose completely one’s feelings and perspectives? Who are these artists currently working with text, and can any points of intersection be said to exist between them? With The Alphabet Show, GSB aims to exhibit a number of these artists and their individual approaches towards the use of text. The selected artists originate in various parts of the world and their work demonstrates, to varying degrees, senses of irony, seriousness and critical awareness, leavened with much humour and playfulness.GSB, is run by Jeanette Steinsland and Jacob Berliner. Emphasis is placed on young contemporary art with connections to street culture and associated contexts. The gallery also has a range of carefully selected art magazines and books available for purchase.

"SABER is a legend. A natural born predator, preying on anything and everything. His graffiti is vicious and angry, and a fucking pitbull fight to the death. He’s a hero, a catalyst for up-and-coming writers, signing blackbooks, shirts, hats, cellphones and even other guys’ girlfriend’s titties. SABER is a real fukin’ artist, bleeding the black blood of creativity which oozes violently from his veins. I spent a night with him, engulfed in his human spider-web better known as Echo Park, piled in an avalanche of art supplies and real life-threatening gang politics. I could feel SABER’s aura of unruly passion and I had an eerie feeling I was in the presence of art history greatness. With millions of fans all over the world, somehow he has been overlooked within the bullshit of the fine art world. He’s on the verge of popping that pretentious cheery and when he does, I can’t wait till he stomps all over the art worlds’ face. - madsteez

Saner's New Book

The Die Young Collection is a selection of books with one only artist or collective as protagonist, all of them brand new talents. This is the first book for all of them, so, all the stuff have never been published before in a book All of them are street artists or have a background in graffiti, but the book represents all the sides, from the sketchbook to the street works, passing by illustration, comercial works, designs and even a photo section that represent the enviroment of the artist, friends and lifestyle.
Saner, one of the most talented and prolific artists in the urban art scene of Mexico, has a new book out that focuses on his latest works in walls, illustrations, toys and vector designs.
His work is rooted in Mexican culture and depicts a nearly religious reverence around death and morbidity. Saner, the book, which is the first in Spain’s Belio Magazine’s Die Young series, captures the essence of his style and celebrates his environment and life.

Backlights, neon paint, and videogames!? What more could you want or expect from a Faile and Bast exhibition taking over two floors of London’s Lazarides gallery?

Faile and long-time collaborator Bast have transformed the gallery space into a truly experiential exhibition. Faile and Bast's signature elements resound throughout the gallery, creating an explosive installation.

Viewers are able to interact with the products of this artistic collaboration, and even purchase original works for just £2, unless, you want to use them within the exhibition. Intrigued? You should be. The show is on view now through March 27th, 2010 at Lazarides. Take a peek at what’s on display:

Cept mural labeled as offensive by the local council.
Part of the story from Graffoto.co.uk:
“Graffoto bumped into a number of hard working car mechanics today who were intrigued by us taking this photo of a new CEPT on the side of their garage. They told us that the Council had ordered them to remove the previous Cept at this location as it was offensive and there had been complaints, £5,000 removal costs if it wasn’t buffed. The guys asked them what was offensive and to show them the complaints – no reply! See, even rude mechanicals get it. The threat issued to them amounted to £5000 cost of removal. They are taking the piss.”
Read the whole story here with lots of nice photos from Shoreditch.
